Jessica Mosley, Director of Quality Engineering @ TrustCloud, shares how she built a culture of quality by balancing DORA metrics, flow metrics, and traditional QA metrics.
Learn how shared metrics can help development teams create common goals, help quality professionals evaluate engineering metrics for QE success, and explore best practices for effective feedback loops.
At the heart of exploratory testing is the charter. Charters should guide our testing and help us focus our exploration on what's most important and impactful.
Unlike scripts generated for test cases, there's an art to crafting charters. Charters help us avoid the dragon of wasteful testing or getting lost in the labyrinth of distraction to help us reach the treasure chest of good enough quality.
We'll discuss adventuring our way through heuristics, assembling our party (personas), side quests to encourage exploration, navigating your way through a test session, and using your compass to help you get back on track.
Why are developers and testers so often at odds? Like a knight and bishop on a chessboard, test and dev are different roles that are much more effective together. Join Jenny Bramble–Test Lead–and Adrian P. Dunston–Senior Developer–as they explore The Deal: a pact between one test engineer and one software engineer that can make a huge impact for the two, for the teams around them, and for their users.
They will describe The Deal (development supports test; test keeps development safe) and introduce you to the team members that you should target to make The Deal with as well as timing and how to maintain the relationship.
If you've ever been on a toxic team and wanted to change it to something more positive, Jenny and Adrian are here to help guide you in the right direction.
The use of AI in testing is leading to new ways of measuring and understanding software quality. AI’s key value in software testing is scale. Using a set of standardized tests, executed by AI, it's now possible to compare the quality of an app versus its competitors, versus other apps made by the same company, and even versus every other app in the world.
AI in testing means there are new ways to quantify quality that matter to the business, give quality metrics across a business or segment, and deliver motivating and actionable ways to improve the quality of those apps.
Matt discusses the ups and downs of being a change-agent in large-scale environments, discussing real-life experiences of solving critical business problems through technical solutions. Each of the examples presented discusses insights that led to technical innovation and resulting outcomes, as well as the cultural shifts required to achieve those outcomes.
Testing AI can be challenging. Testing at the scale of big data can be as well. When I found myself responsible for testing more than 5000 machine learning models that needed to be run on streaming data pipelines that were processing millions of records per second, I stepped up, made a lot of mistakes, and learned some really cool things along the way.
For the past three years, I’ve been working on a little bug - a 1970 Volkswagen Beetle, to be precise. This car has been *full* of problems, but that’s not much different than the apps we build. I had never worked on cars before, but my software engineering skills helped me tremendously.
I’ll tell you the whole story, from blowing up the engine to rebuilding it myself. I’ll also share how I learned a few things from cars that transferred into my software practices. Whether running tests with automation or shifting gears with a manual transmission, certain skills remained invaluable, like curiosity, tenacity, and ingenuity.
Come learn from my mistakes so that you can build things better, whatever you choose to build.
